PhonePe QR code for a shop
A counter code that works in PhonePe and every other UPI app. Print-checked before it goes on the wall.

A counter code is a printed object first
It will be scanned at arm’s length in bad light by a phone held at an angle. That makes print size and quiet zone matter more than anything on the screen, which is what the print size calculator is for.
Laminate it, and check it after
Lamination adds gloss, and gloss costs effective contrast under a shop light. Scan the finished, laminated code before it goes on the counter rather than the artwork before it goes to print.
One code for the shop, not one per app
A UPI QR is read by every UPI app. A separate PhonePe code beside a Google Pay code is two things to maintain that do the same job.
Questions
Should the shop code carry an amount?
Usually not. A counter takes varying amounts, so an open code the payer types into is right. A fixed-amount code suits a single-price item — one dish, one ticket, one subscription.
What size should a counter code be printed at?
It depends on the payload and the scanning distance, which is arithmetic rather than a rule of thumb. The print size calculator derives it from the symbol rather than from a survey.
