CREATING CODES

Everyday codes: links, WiFi, contacts and more

Codes whose content is in the pattern itself, so they work with no signal at all.

These are the codes most people make first: a web address, a WiFi network, a contact card, an email, a text message, a phone number, a map point, a calendar event, plain text, and your GST details. Find them on the Static codes shelf of Create.

What each one does when scanned

  • URL: the browser opens the address.
  • Text: the phone shows the text and offers to copy it.
  • WiFi: the phone offers to join the network. No password is typed, and none is shown.
  • Contact (vCard): the phone offers to save a contact with every field filled in. MeCard is a smaller format that older Android readers handle more reliably.
  • Email: the mail app opens a new message, addressed and with the subject filled in. Nothing is sent until the person presses send.
  • SMS: a draft message to your number, with the text ready.
  • Phone: the dialler opens with the number in it. It doesn't call on its own.
  • Location: the map app opens at the exact coordinates, not a search.
  • Event: the calendar offers to add the event, in the time zone the code carries.
  • GST details: the phone shows your GSTIN and registered name, ready to copy onto an invoice.

Static or dynamic

Where a type offers the choice, the form asks Static or dynamic:

  • Static: the content is in the pattern. It never expires and can never be changed after printing, a scan needs nothing from us, and scans aren't counted.
  • Dynamic: the code prints a short link you can point somewhere else after printing, and its scans are counted. It uses one of your plan's dynamic codes.

Choose before you print: a printed static code can't later become dynamic.

Make one

Choose the type, fill in the form, and the preview updates as you type. The scan checks run on every change. See Create your first code and Designing a code that scans.
